Vegan Adventures in Bangkok

My husband and I just got back from a quick trip to Bangkok to celebrate our first anniversary. We had an amazing time! The sights were beautiful, the people extremely kind, and the food incredibly delicious. We really did not know what to expect in the way of vegan food options, other than hearing amazing things about May Kaidee’s vegan and vegetarian restaurants. Little did we know that Bangkok is somewhat of a vegan mecca with many options for dinning. Vegan food, or jay, was brought to Thailand from Chinese Buddhist immigrants. There are for sure more vegan/vegetarian options in Bangkok than there are here in Penang!

Our favorite vegan adventure in Bangkok was a half-day cooking class that we took with May Kaidee. If you are ever in Bangkok, you have to take a class from her! It was an amazing experience. It was so much fun and I learned a great deal about Thai cooking. May Kaidee offers different kinds of classes, seven days a week, to meet your specific needs: half day classes, shorter express classes, advanced classes (where you learn how to make soy milk and tofu!) and raw food classes. During our half-day class,  we learned 14 different Thai dishes including: Tom Yam Soup, Massaman Curry, Green Papaya Salad, and of course, Pad Thai. We also got to eat everything we cooked!  Needles to say, we were stuffed the rest of the day. The class was a great bargain at $40 a person and worth every dollar. We hope to be back in Bangkok next month and want to take her advanced course!
